RWTH Aachen
RWTH Aachen University strives to foster a unique educational and networked research environment that embraces the convergence of knowledge, approaches and insights from the humanities, economics, engineering, natural and life sciences.
RWTH aims to be one of the best universities of science and technology in Europe. This will be measured by the reputation of its graduates, research networks and the impact of the research as well as the University’s ability to attract top global talent and necessary external funding to reach its scientific goals.
At RWTH, we aim to train highly qualified and responsible graduates for science, industry, and society. Our academic teaching and learning is skills-driven, research-based, and practice-orientated.
RWTH ranks among the eleven German universities which were successful in the Universities of Excellence funding line and will now be funded for a period of at least seven years.
More than 6.500 people with an international background, from more than 120 countries, currently study, research, teach, and work at RWTH Aachen University. This internationality lived out at RWTH is flanked by strategies, measures, and services for promoting the internationality of academics, teaching, and research. As part of the Excellence Initiative, RWTH looks back on decades of high-profile international cooperation and substantial experience with third-party funding. In addition, the Teacher Training Center is committed to actively promoting student mobility – both physical stays abroad, such as study abroad programs and mandatory or voluntary internships in pedagogical settings outside of Germany, and through curricular tools, such as internationalization at home. With one dedicated position (“Internationalisierung in der Lehramtssausbildung”), the Teacher Training Center holds specific expertise when it comes to establishing international cooperation with schools and universities, advising on, preparing for and supervising during international student placements.
The RWTH Teacher Training Center (LBZ) is a central scientific university institution that contributes to professional and discipline-specific teacher training. The LBZ is focused on ensuring excellent teacher training at RWTH and promoting interdisciplinary dialogue in teacher training. As project partner within the Teach³ project, the LBZ organizes and takes part in project specific guest lectures, workshops and annual conferences and acts as lead for Work Package 4 entitled “Institutions of Higher Education Cross Borders” that focuses on specific objectives aimed at the evaluation of cross-border internships, enhancing collaboration and knowledge exchange between universities. As such, the LBZ promotes and supervises school internships in Belgium and the Netherlands for its teacher trainees. In addition, the LBZ’s MediaLab is in charge of developing a digital matching tool for school internships to further facilitate and optimize the matching process. The RWTH research chair in school education and inclusion evaluates the overall effects and efficacy of the cross-border internships for all of Teach³’s partner institutions of higher education.
