Haute École Charlemagne Liège
The Haute École Charlemagne is a University College of 3000 students that runs more than 30 different professional Bachelor’s degrees as well as Master’s degrees and specialisations in 5 departments: Education (future teachers for elementary, primary and secondary schools as well as educators specialized in psycho-educational support), Economics (Management assistant, Hotel Management, Tourism, Logistics and Real Estate Management), Agronomy, Biomedical technologies (medical laboratory technologists) and Technics (green packaging design).
The campus offers its students a range of services such as a printing and technical laboratory, a library, a sustainable canteen, etc. The Haute École Charlemagne enjoys a prime location close to the recently transformed Guillemins district. This area, centred around the iconic Liège-Guillemins railway station, has undergone a remarkable urban regeneration. Its excellent transport links make it a hub of accessibility.
HECh has 18 partner countries in Europe and beyond. Every year, it welcomes students on academic mobility or internships.
The Haute École Charlemagne’s contribution to the Teach³ project will be firstly to organize, in partnership with EMR, placements for its future teacher students in Germany and in the Netherlands. HECh will potentially send up to one hundred students for two-week placements in primary and secondary schools, resulting in a total of 200 weeks of placements. During their internship, the students will act as native-speaking “language assistants” and provide support to the teaching staff in the schools. This may include conversation activities, co-teaching or teaching in subjects related to the students’ fields of study, as well as activities such as shadowing, civics, school exchanges and visits.
Secondly, the HECh will play an active role in the cross-border activities that are organized between the five higher education institutional partners such as a guest lecture each year, the annual conference in Liège in 2026, a workshop for the annual conference and an introductory video on the education system in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Finally, HECh will promote the Teach³ programme among its students and has created a promotional video about the programme for all the students of the five higher education institutional partners.
