Fontys Sittard
Fontys University of Applied Sciences is a large and comprehensive public institution of higher education located in the Netherlands, boasting approximately 44,000 students, including 5,200 international students. It employs 4,700 staff members, with 3,400 serving as lecturers and educational coaches. Situated in the southern regions of the Netherlands, particularly in the provinces of Brabant and Limburg, Fontys offers a diverse array of Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. The educational campus in Sittard hosts 14 educational and pedagogical Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. Operating under the branch name FLOS (Fontys Lerarenopleiding Sittard), it provides a Bachelor of Education with honors for prospective teachers across eight subject areas, organized into three clusters: modern languages, social sciences, and natural sciences. Additionally, students have the option to pursue Master’s programs in English, German, Dutch, and Mathematics.
Internships are a key component of the curriculum, with students engaging in internships ranging from 10 weeks in the first year to a full year in the fourth year, across a network of 34 secondary schools in Limburg. Throughout their internships, students receive close supervision from trained teachers, school practice coordinators, and Fontys teacher trainers. In addition to on-site support, students are guided through a digital portfolio accessible to their supervisors at all times.
